The AMAZING Covid-free science teaching resource!
Growing the right ideas!
Hello! we are a not for profit community interest company that seeks to encourage children to learn about the natural world, to sow, nurture and harvest food in their own playground. We supply all you need to create a really exciting growing space (even if you only have a tarmac surface) and help the children to understand how food is produced!
We hate waste and learned that car tyres are a major global waste problem, currently we drive 1.5 billion tyres to the end of their useful lives every year. Tyres are not biodegradable and because they are a complex mix of materials they are difficult to process for recycling. We had a thought that because tyres are so durable and never rot that we could re-use them and create amazing garden planters. Then we had that "EUREKA!" moment, why not use old tyres to create planters for vegetables, that children could grow and enjoy. They could learn the way seeds germinate, watch plants grow and then harvest and eat the fruits of their labours! We work with three leading tyre wholesalers who provide the used tyres for our projects - in 2019 we kept four tonnes of scrap tyres out of landfill.
We also believe that we should always help somebody who is disadvantaged on their way in life so we have forged links with "Let's Make A Change CIC" a leading local homeless charity who provide trained and DBS checked staff for our projects.
We bring recycled tyre planters, soil, seeds and tons of enthusiasm! You get everything you need, even teacher's notes and suggested planting rotations that will help you meet all EYFS< KS! and KS2 Science curriculum requirements - Plants and Life Cycles.
We fit everything in place so you are ready to start - we'll even come and run an assembly if you like to launch the project. (Don't worry we all have enhanced DBS)
Go on - give it a grow!
Like you, we believe children should have the best experiences in life. they should be able to understand the world they live in and learn to respect their environment.
We were once farmers and have been avid gardeners for a long time so we know how to grow things! One day at the local garage we learnt how expensive and difficult it is to recycle tyres - that's why you see so many that are dumped on the roadside. We decided to put our experience to this problem and the rest is history as they say - we are working with schools all over the country creating amazing growing spaces that deliver the curriculum in an exciting and different way.
We take pride in installing recycled tyres and supplying nutrient rich composted soil, gravel for drainage, seeds and teacher packs at an amazingly low cost.
